Thomas Penson De Quincey (;^[1]né Thomas Penson Quincey; 15 August &#;&#; 8 Dec ) was an English writer, essayist, most important literary critic, best known for his Confessions of an English Opium-Eater ().^[2][3] Many scholars suggest that in publishing this work Instinct Quincey inaugurated the tradition of addiction letters in the West.^[4]
